This a scan of the article from Recording Magazine. I did this mod this past weekend. It's pretty straightforward, but pay attention to what the author says about how delicate the PC board is. I used the Oktava mount that came with the mic and put it in a table top mic stand I got from Radio Shack. It holds it very well. Also note what he says about cleaning the board once you get finished. I ordered the conformal coating from Cain Electronics and since I had to pay shipping I went ahead and got some heavy duty flux cleaner from them. $12.95 each. Both are made by MG in Canada and are bit hard to find elsewhere. I ordered the 2SK170BL FET's from www.partstore.com. They were about $3 each. After all the soldering I cleaned the board real well with the flux remover and an acid brush with the bristles cut down to make them stiffer. Then once the board was dry and tested, I coated it with the conformal coating which is really just a clear acrylic coating.

The main difference that I noticed after doing the mod was that the high end was a bit smoother and that both of my mics sounded the same. The main mods are on the front end of the circuit so it makes sense that it would help balance the sound. Both of my mics had different FET's and bias and leak resistors. Good luck!
